Every Christmas in the UK, we eat turkey and mince pies, then they disappear for another year as no one really likes them that much. We were wondering what unique food items only make an appearance at Christmas in the US?
That's a good question. I would say candy canes and fruitcake. From a family perspective, I would say that Grandma's Christmas Cookies are only made once a year.
Back in 20021, I stayed (and spoke!) at Newnham, which I appreciate is at The Other Place, not Oxford, but hey! It was so lovely. That was a Britain I had only seen at a distance as a child, so it was incredibly moving and memorable to be allowed in, even if only for a few days!

I, too, had the good fortune to spend several years in England - London 1983 - 1993. They were defining years in my life.
I wish we had known each other back then. I am in the Madison area for Christmas.
